Southwest Regional Medical Center’s Chief Executive Officer, David Kreye, has announced he will be leaving the hospital next month to accept a leadership position with Baptist Health System in San Antonio, Texas. Kreye has served as CEO at Southwest Regional since October of 2005, when Essent Healthcare purchased the facility.
“I am so proud of the progress that has been made at Southwest Regional Medical Center thanks to the medical staff, employees and community,” shared Kreye. “It has been a difficult choice for me to walk away in the midst of so many opportunities that will further expand healthcare for this community, but my family and I really enjoyed living in Texas and the opportunity to return was something we just couldn’t pass up.”
Kreye previously served as COO for Paris Regional Medical Center in Paris, Texas, a facility also owned and operated by Essent Healthcare. “ During his tenure as CEO, Kreye has led the growth of Southwest Regional Medical Center from a 54 bed hospital to a 73 bed hospital, including the addition of an intensive care unit, pediatric unit and behavioral health unit. More than 10 new physicians have also joined the medical staff including a full time allergist, general surgeon and Hospitalist. Technology upgrades include new diagnostic imaging equipment, laboratory equipment, an echocardiography machine and software systems. A $1 million renovation of outpatient services is currently underway.
“David has been instrumental in guiding the growth and development of Southwest Regional Medical Center,” said W. Hudson Connery, Jr., President and CEO of Essent Healthcare. “He’s developed an excellent foundation on which to build the hospital’s future.”
A search for a new chief executive is already underway. In the meantime, Steve Wylie will serve as interim CEO. Wylie is the Chief Financial Officer for Essent. “The strong state of this hospital is a testament to David’s tremendous leadership abilities,” stated Wylie. “He will be missed, but we will continue to move forward and continue to provide exceptional healthcare to our community.”
Kreye’s last day with Southwest Regional Medical Center will be May 18.
