SOUTHWEST REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER ANNOUNCES NEW ORTHOPEDIC CARE CENTER

Southwest Regional Medical Center has announced the opening of a new Orthopedic Care Center. The center will provide a new level of care and comfort for patients needing joint replacement surgery. The most common joint replacement procedures are knees and hips.

While joint replacement procedures have been performed for many years at Southwest Regional Medical Center, The Orthopedic Care Center will provide patients many new services and amenities to facilitate a quick, comfortable and convenient recovery. The facility is also designed to provide comfort for family members and will be located on the fourth floor of the hospital.

One new service is the addition of femoral nerve blocks to help patients minimize pain following their procedure. A femoral nerve block is given to a knee replacement patient to help block the sensation to the front and inner part of the knee. This helps provide continual pain relief for the patient lasting 2-3 days.
The Orthopedic Care Center will also offer luxurious accommodations with modern décor, desks, flat screen televisions, wireless access, loungers and places for family members to relax. Room service will be available allowing patients to select the meals they want when they want them. Complete rehabilitation services will enable patients to restore the highest level of mobility possible so they can return home to enjoy life.

“The new Orthopedic Care Center as Southwest Regional Medical Center will offer joint replacement candidates state-of-the-art pain management in rooms more comfortable than I have seen in 5-Star Hotels,” shared Dr. Armando Avolio, orthopedic surgeon.

Over 600,000 total joint replacements are performed each year in the Unites States. The most commonly replaced joints are the hips and knees. Most often joints are replaced to help alleviate pain and enhance the quality of life for patients suffering from severe arthritis. When an individual loses the capacity to enjoy basic things in life or when a cane or other device is required to help ambulate, a joint replacement may be considered.

Dr. Avolio and his partner, Dr. Joseph Stracci, board certified orthopedic surgeons, have a combined 34 years of experience in providing joint replacement surgery. Anyone wishing to schedule a consultation should call 724.627.6948.

An open house and reception and dedication will be held on September 6 from 11-2 for anyone wishing to see the facility and learn more. Refreshments will be served. Please call 724-627-2623 for additional information.
